Playing With Water
Sometimes an image as it is doesn’t seem like it belongs in that final form. Let’s take this unedited image for example:
Editing it to pop the colors and highlights in the water changes the look and makes it more presentable: 
However, there is a nice range of light tones, mid tones, and dark tones, which could possibly translate well into a black and white image:

After looking at it a bit more and being curious about the reflection, flipping the image may provide more focus on the reflected face rather than the actual face:
In a similar thought, cropping the image in may again provide more attention on the face:
Curious again about negative and positive space, I cropped the face to cover most of the frame, following the rule of thirds in vertical columns with a symmetrical horizontal center:

With the eye in American culture typically starting at the top left of the image, I wanted to see how the image looked if the eyes started on the top left instead of the top right:
After a series of edits, crops, and readjusting the image, my favorite rendition is the black and white flipped (uncropped) image:
