I struggle to describe our week in the Greater Chaco Region. I really felt the heat and combined with all the information I was trying to absorb made for an overwhelming experience. However, through the people we met I learnt so much, began to connect with the place and felt a desire to help in any way I can. The fight against fracking is ongoing and extremely hard; where people’s lives, loved ones and land are at stake. We collaborated with the #FRACKOFFCHACO organisation to create short videos which educate and spread the word about the devastating effects of fracking on humans, land, animals, plants and communities.
Being able to talk with Daniel Tso, Samuel Sage, Kendra Pinto, Marleen Thomas, and Eileen Shendo, who are so motivated and inspiring, was a real privilege. All of them shared with us their personal experiences and connections to the region, along with their knowledge on the fracking processes and laws. My sketchbook reflects my time here; pages of scrawled notes, trying to capture everything that is said, amongst quick sketches of whatever is around and more detailed drawings from our day at Chaco Canyon.
