It’s not hard to be enchanted when you fall asleep to the sound of the river gurgling outside your tent and wake up to a squirrel chattering in the tree above you. After coffee, we all go exploring. Setting off on the road that winds through the mountains, we head to the Pole Creek trail. The view opens up to reveal a breathtaking valley and we diverge to clamber up to a lookout.
I think I like eating my lunch a little light headed from altitude (11,050 ft.) and vertigo (looking over the edge straight down at churning water will do that to you). With a good dinner and a warm fire back at camp, it would be easy to call this place home.
